abstract nº02
an overview of each imprint from the last four weeks.
this week i find myself on a bit of staycation, spending time with my love and a visiting friend. i’m taking a beat to be a tourist, expand my horizons a bit + spend some down time with people i love.
we visited makana, a mountain that towers over the limahuli valley on the north shore of kauai. i spent some in the botanic gardens there and felt more at peace than i have in months. here’s a shot of the ridge line towering over the valley, makana is at the far right. in hawaiian makana means abundance, gift or reward. it truly is a magical place.

constraints are what you make them.
i believe for artists there is an ongoing struggle to create outside of, and despite, the expectations of others. most days it can be enough to get out of your own way and show up to create something, anything.
without life, what is art?
it’s the life lived that fosters perspective and opinion in an artist. whether that be a physical brush stroke or a prompt provided to an a.i. software. an artist’s unique perspective is what sets their art apart.
duality isle.
this time on island is different than my residency in the past, if not due to the geographic disparity — one being a frozen tundra, the other being a lush jungle — then because of the questions i find myself asking. intriguingly it’s not the questions that are different, it’s how i’m answering them this time around.
nyc, curiosity + trying out new things.
so much of art is caught up in how or why something is made. i find i’m most energized when i experience an artwork and forget about the medium entirely, when my senses are caught up in a dance with my mind, forgetting about the here and now while being ironically, wholly, caught in the present moment.
